Exercise Physiologist, Strength & Conditioning Specialist and Nutritional Therapist, Ian Craig is available for consultation and training in Cape Town, Stellenbosch and in the UK during annual trips. Depending on your goals, he can guide you through a personal training programme and support your health and performance needs with nutritional strategies.

Exercise Training

After an initial consultation and assessment of current fitness, you will have a training plan periodised for you based on your personal goals. The training sessions typically comprise of some balance of the following components:

  • Cardiovascular - this will be mode-specific based on your focus on running, cycling, swimming, triathlon, walking, games sports or a nice mixture of gym-based activities. The time spent exercising and intensity will be varied to access the different physiological systems.
  • Strength & Conditioning and Core Stability – being strong and conditioned for the activity that most want to do, whether it is riding sub-3hrs for the Cape Argus cycle race or simply being able to enjoy a walk along the seafront, can give you that leading edge. Strength and power from the gym refine your sporting performance; make fat-loss easier and reduce the rate of age-associated degeneration in function. Ian will lead you through old-fashioned weight-training plus lots of exercises using your own body for resistance.
  • Mobility – like strength, it is something that can give you an edge in athletic performance plus reduce the gradual declines in function as we age. Ian likes to lead you through Yoga and Pilates exercises to improve mobility in a functional way. The added focus on breathing is also a fantastic stress management tool.

You will be recommended to visit the gym at least once a week for a supervised programme, but programmes will be tailored individually to your needs and time commitments.
